LBI Extended Family Photographer | A Beach Haven Reunion Session
Some weeks at the shore are just a vacation. And then there are the weeks that are really a celebration — the whole family, three generations deep, gathered in one place on purpose. That’s exactly what brought me to Beach Haven, Long Beach Island, to photograph the Rosier family during their week down the shore celebrating Mom’s 70th birthday.

Meet the Rosiers: Eleven People, One Beach, One Big Celebration
Eleven people. One beach. A whole lot of love.
The Rosiers gathered on LBI to celebrate Grandma’s 70th birthday together as a full family — Grandma and Granddad, their daughter’s family of four with a three-year-old and a one-year-old, and their son’s family of five with three boys ages eight, six, and three. Eleven people, three generations, one incredible week at the shore.
I met them right at their beachfront rental in Beach Haven, and we walked straight out to the beach from their own private access — no driving, no parking, no hauling gear across town. Just steps from the front door to the sand.
What followed was exactly what a Jersey Shore session should be: sunshine, laughter, and pure play. The littlest ones chased seagulls up and down the beach. The big boys ran wild through the surf. We collected shells along the tideline, played beach games as a group, and mixed in classic, posed family portraits with the kind of candid chaos that only eleven people (five of them under nine) can bring. A few silly face swaps in post-production sealed the deal on making sure everyone’s favorite expression made it into the final shot — because with a group this size, someone is always blinking, and that’s part of the fun.
It was, without question, one of the most beautiful nights I’ve had on the beach all summer — golden light, big laughs, and a family fully present with each other.

A Portrait of Mom and Granddad: The Real Treasure
Of everything we captured that evening, the portraits of Mom and Granddad together are the ones that will matter most in twenty, thirty, fifty years. A quiet moment between two people who built this entire family — a lifetime spent together, a legacy carried forward through their children and now their grandchildren, running barefoot on the same sand.
That’s the kind of image that doesn’t just live on a wall. It gets handed down. One day, those grandkids will be the ones holding that portrait, telling their own kids about the summer they all gathered on LBI to celebrate Grandma turning 70.

Why LBI Is Perfect for an Extended Family Reunion Session
Long Beach Island has a way of pulling a big family back together every year, and Beach Haven in particular is one of my favorite spots on the island for exactly that reason:
- Beachfront access means zero logistics — when your rental opens right onto the sand, there’s no coordinating carpools or parking for eleven people, you just walk out the door
- Room for everyone to actually play — wide open beach means space for littles to run, big kids to chase waves, and the whole group to gather for portraits without feeling cramped
- A relaxed, unhurried pace — a week-long vacation means we’re not squeezing a session into a rushed hour; we can work around naps, dinner plans, and everyone’s mood
- The kind of light you can’t fake — golden hour on LBI, with the whole family glowing and windblown, is hard to beat

What an Extended Family Session Looks Like
Big family sessions are their own kind of beautiful chaos, and I plan for it:
- A mix of full group, family-unit, and individual portraits — so Grandma and Granddad get their portrait, each family gets theirs, and the whole crew gets the big group shot worthy of printing large
- Real play, not just posing — chasing seagulls, collecting shells, running through the waves, games in the sand — these are the moments that end up being everyone’s favorites
- Built-in flexibility for little ones — with kids ranging from one to eight years old, we work with their energy instead of against it, catching genuine smiles instead of forced ones
- A little help in post-production — with a group this size, I’ll swap in the best expression for anyone who blinked or looked away, so the final portrait has everyone at their best

Common Questions About Extended Family Sessions on LBI
How many people can you photograph in one session? As many as your family needs — I’ve photographed groups well over a dozen. The key is planning enough time and a location with room to spread out, like the beach.
Can you meet us right at our rental? Absolutely. If your rental has beach access, we can walk straight out from your door — it’s one of the easiest ways to keep a big group organized.
How do you handle little kids and getting everyone looking at the camera at once? With patience, timing, and a little post-production magic. Between working quickly during real moments and swapping in the best expression afterward, we make sure everyone shines — even the three-year-olds.
What’s the best time of day for a big family group? Golden hour, hands down. The light is soft and forgiving, the beach starts to clear out, and everyone is more relaxed after a full day in the sun.
How far in advance should we book a family reunion session? As early as possible, especially if you’re planning around a specific celebration or a week when the whole family will be together — those dates matter, and I want to make sure I can be there for it.

Let’s Celebrate Your Family’s Next Milestone
Whether it’s a milestone birthday, a family reunion, or just the one week a year everyone’s actually together, an extended family session on LBI is one of the most meaningful gifts you can give — to your parents, your grandparents, and the grandkids who will one day treasure these photos as much as the Rosiers will.
