There is something about a rainy wedding morning in the mountains that feels incredibly romantic. The fog hangs low over the trees, the air feels calm and quiet, and everything slows down just enough for couples to really soak in the meaning of the day. Daniella and Bret’s Memorial Day Weekend wedding on May 24th, 2026 at Red Tail Lodge and the The Appalachian Hotel at Mountain Creek Resort was the perfect reminder that beautiful wedding days are not about perfect weather — they are about the experience, the people, and the energy you create together.
As a longtime preferred wedding photographer at Mountain Creek Resort, I’ve photographed weddings here throughout every season imaginable. Sunny bluebird ski days, colorful peak fall weekends, summer sunset ceremonies, snowy winter weddings, and yes — rainy spring mountain weddings too. One of the biggest advantages of working with a photographer who knows Mountain Creek inside and out is having someone who can confidently pivot when the weather changes and still create a smooth, relaxed wedding day experience.
And honestly? Daniella could not have handled the weather more perfectly.
From the moment I arrived at the hotel that morning, she was completely unbothered by the rain and mist outside. She understood something that every couple planning a mountain wedding should remember: you cannot control the weather, but you can control your attitude and trust your vendor team to adapt. That calm energy set the tone for the entire day.

Daniella chose to keep her getting ready portion of the day intimate and emotional, spending the morning with just her mom and her maids of honor inside the cozy suites at the The Appalachian Hotel. The slower pace of the morning allowed for meaningful moments that often get lost in larger, busier wedding mornings.

One of the most emotional details of the day was hidden within Daniella’s bouquet. She surprised her mother by including photo charms of her mother’s sister and relatives attached to the bouquet — a quiet and deeply personal way to honor loved ones who could not physically be there. Watching her mother notice the charms was one of those genuine emotional moments that reminds me why documentary wedding photography matters so much. Those reactions cannot be recreated or posed.
Throughout the morning, I leaned into a bright, romantic, and artistic photography approach. Soft window light pouring through the hotel rooms paired beautifully with the misty weather outside, creating timeless images with a calm and elevated feel.

Rain on a wedding day at a mountain venue always requires flexibility, especially somewhere as unique as Mountain Creek Resort where gondola transportation plays a major role in the flow of the day.
Because of my experience photographing weddings at Mountain Creek, I suggested shifting the timeline slightly to maximize the possibility of clearer weather later in the afternoon. Instead of immediately heading up the mountain for portraits, we decided to complete their first look, private vows, and all family formal photos inside while some passing rain cleared.
This is one of the reasons I always help my couples with custom timeline planning specific to Mountain Creek weddings. Family formal photos can easily be done indoors at Red Tail Lodge regardless of weather conditions, and since everyone was already dressed and present, it made perfect sense to take advantage of that time first while allowing the rain an opportunity to lighten and clear.
These small timeline pivots make a massive difference in how relaxed a wedding day feels.
Daniella and Bret shared their first look inside the beautiful lodge, protected from the rain while still in a beautiful mountain side atmosphere. They exchanged private vows quietly together before the larger celebrations began, creating one of the calmest and most emotional parts of the entire day.

Once family photos wrapped up, the wedding party and couple rode the gondola together to the mountaintop for portraits.
And honestly? The weather ended up giving us something even more beautiful than sunshine could have.
The top of the mountain was covered in dreamy fog and rolling mist that drifted across the landscape behind them. Instead of wide clear mountain views, we got soft layers of atmosphere that made the portraits feel cinematic, romantic, and uniquely North Jersey mountain wedding.
This is one of my favorite things about photographing at Mountain Creek Resort — every single wedding looks different depending on the season and weather. Couples often worry rain will “ruin” their portraits, but mountain fog can create some of the most emotional and artistic wedding images imaginable.
The mist softened the entire landscape while still allowing the greens of Memorial Day weekend to shine through. The result felt incredibly editorial while still staying true to the candid, connected moments between Daniella and Bret.

While the ceremony and portraits felt soft and romantic, the reception brought an entirely different energy.
Daniella and Bret are from Asbury Park, and they wanted their wedding reception to feel like a full-on Jersey Shore celebration. And thanks to Hi NRG Sounds, that dance floor stayed absolutely PACKED all night long.
One of the things couples often do not realize is how much photography style changes throughout a wedding day depending on the atmosphere and lighting conditions. I intentionally adapt my approach to best tell the story of each part of the day naturally and professionally.
Earlier in the day, I focused on soft romantic imagery and candid documentary moments. During the ceremony and throughout cocktail hour, I photographed things in a true-to-life storytelling style that captured the real emotions and interactions happening naturally.
Once reception entrances, first dances, and speeches began, I transitioned into professional off-camera lighting techniques to create a more elevated and dramatic look appropriate for the energy of the ballroom. Proper lighting during receptions is one of the biggest differences between average wedding photography and truly polished professional imagery.
And then the glow wands came out.
The moment the foam glow sticks hit the dance floor, the entire room shifted into party mode. That is when I intentionally switch photography styles again — incorporating direct flash, movement, and shutter drag techniques that visually recreate how the dance floor actually felt in real life. The final images become energetic, colorful, dynamic, and immersive instead of static or overly posed.
The result was the perfect combination of emotional mountain wedding and wild Jersey Shore dance party.

As a preferred wedding photographer at Mountain Creek Resort, I’ve had the opportunity to photograph weddings here throughout every season and in all kinds of weather conditions. Because I know the property so well, I help couples navigate the logistics that are unique to Mountain Creek weddings — from gondola timing and portrait locations to rain plans, indoor photo options, ceremony lighting, seasonal sunset timing, and first look recommendations.
Whether you are planning a wedding at Red Tail Lodge, mountaintop ceremony spaces, or a weekend celebration at the The Appalachian Hotel, I am always happy to help couples create a timeline that feels smooth, calm, and enjoyable from start to finish.
My goal is never just to take beautiful photos — it is to help couples feel comfortable, confident, and fully present throughout their wedding day experience.
