I know, deciding between having your baby’s first photos at home vs. Here are some helpful questions to ask yourself to figure out whether a new jersey in home or in studio newborn session is right for you and your family.

What is lifestyle photography? How is it different from posed studio newborn sessions?

Lifestyle photography is based on real life moments, but with a bit more effort put into wardrobe and light posing. Think of things you’d naturally do with your family at home, like snuggle on the couch, rock your infant to sleep, curl up on the bed, look down on your baby in their crib, give your baby so many kisses and love, views of baby in their crib, or swaddled up in a moses basket.

My approach to all newborn sessions is lifestyle based, whether it’s in your home or in my home studio.

Do you want to leave your home within 14 days of delivery?

Newborn sessions typically take place within the first 10-14 days after delivery. If you’re not comfortable with leaving your home during those first two weeks of your baby’s life, then maybe an in home session is best for you.

Do you have older children or toddlers?

What are their personalities like? Will they be able to hang at a studio for a couple hours or would you prefer to be home with them where they can have their photos done first then have a snack and play in their room until we’re done? The bonus of being home is that uncooperative toddlers can pop in and pop out as they wish. Often times toddlers will cooperate for a few minutes then want out, then come back in! Toddler life!

Does your home have enough natural light for an in home newborn session?

When considering between in home vs in studio newborn sessions, light is a consideration. My photos are typically done with natural light, though if you have a darker home I will pop on a flash to add in some light. It’s important that your home has enough available light.

What feeling do you want your images to have?

Do you prefer photos in your own space or in a “set”
