Welcoming a newborn into the family is something to be remembered— the love, excitement, and a bit of chaos, especially when there’s a toddler in the mix. As a Morris County Newborn Photographer, I recently had the privilege of capturing a beautiful newborn session—full of life and the chaos of life with a big brother and a newborn baby.
When I arrived at the family’s home, I was greeted by big brother and the family’s dog! All so very welcome in a newborn session at an in home baby photo shoot in Morris county NJ.
As we began the session, we embraced the spontaneity and unpredictability that comes with photographing young children and pets! Rather than striving for perfection, we focused on capturing the authentic moments—the candid laughter, the gentle snuggles, the playful interactions—that truly show the reality of family life with young kids!

I always give soft direction and suggestions to the entire family, to get everyone comfortable and confident in front of the camera. Action posing involves getting everyone in a general area and mom looking great, then making suggestions if needed. Like snuggles, looking at the baby, getting mom and dad chatting and asking questions of big brother about baby or just his favorite things!
Advice for including a big sibling in your newborn photo shoot
Sometimes big siblings don’t have much interest in their new baby sibling. If that’s the case, I recommend asking them about things that they do love! Sing a song together, chat about favorite foods, or silly things like boogers and stinky feet!
