I welcomed Whitney, Steven, and their sweet baby boy Cole, for their in studio newborn photos a few weeks back! Mom and Dad decided to have their photos here in my home studio in Sussex County NJ for a bright and airy look to their images. Cole was such a dream to work with! He slept through the majority of our time together while I chatted and snapped adorable photos of him and his family!
Are you tossing between in studio or in home photos for your newborn? I always say it’s a matter of personal preference and comfort levels after having a new baby. No matter where you choose, I always lean more towards lifestyle, or interactive and connection based photos over poses. I will never place your baby in a way that they would not be in naturally or comfortably!
Some things to consider when choosing In Studio Newborn Photos vs In Home Newborn Photos.
- Natural Light – The amount of natural light your home has during the morning/daytime hours. For light and bright images we for sure need some light! Big windows without much tree cover, and homes with lots of open spaces work best! Is it still possible to shoot in smaller or darker homes? For sure! But your images would be more on the darker side too.
- Backgrounds – In home sessions use your home as the backdrop. Master bedrooms, nurseries, and living rooms being the main areas that I use. If you’re not happy with your spaces, in the middle of renovations, or just don’t want that as your background then an in studio newborn session might be right for you!
- Comfort level – Some people don’t want to bring their newborn out of the house during the first two weeks, and some don’t mind at all! It’s up to you and what your comfort level is, especially in times of COVID-19. No matter where you choose, I’m always careful with your newborn, using hand sanitizer, masks, and I’m fully vaccinated. Your baby’s health and safety are the most important thing to me!
